God’s Rest is Central to Wholeness (Shalom)

Part 1 of 2

How would you like to gain more time to live wholly and invite your clients to experience God’s shalom?

In a world obsessed with productivity and achievement; rest is perceived as the elusive reward for hard work.  God’s rhythm for life is the complete opposite. We are created to operate out of His rest (Matt 11:28-30).  In order to be productive, God’s rest is not optional - it is central to wholeness and excellence.

Sabbath-keeping is God’s RESET button!

So we conclude that there is still a full and complete Sabbath-rest waiting for believers to experience.  As we enter into God’s faith-rest life we cease from our own works, just as God celebrates his finished works and rests in them.  So then we must be eager to experience this faith-rest life, so that no one falls short by following the same pattern of doubt and unbelief.” Hebrews 4:9-11

In the New Testament, shalom is revealed as the reconciliation of all things to God through the work of Christ:

“God was pleased . . . through [Christ] to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through [Christ’s] blood, shed on the cross” (Colossians 1:19-20).

Shalom experienced is multidimensional. God’s shalom is complete well-being — physical, psychological, social, and spiritual.  Shalom flows throughout all your relationships, including your relationship with God, yourself, others and creation.

I invite you to join me on this two-part interactive series dedicated to exploring how you and your clients can experience two of the seven hidden treasures of God’s Sabbath rest:

  • 1.     Wholeness – Sabbath-keeping is the linchpin of the Ten Commandments because it is God’s reset button.  It is how He restored our shalom.  This is why Jesus confirmed that the Sabbath was made for us (Mark 2:27). “As we enter into God’s faith-rest life and cease our own works… (Hebrew 4:10), He brings us into right relationship with Him, ourselves, others and creation.
  • 2.     Time – God established a seven-day week.  He created a rhythm for His creation. He hardwired us to operate out of rest.  We become better stewards of TIME when we learn to operate out of God’s rest.

This series is underpinned by the following two aspects of the ICF Core Competency.

Evoking Awareness:

1.     Helps the client identify factors that influence current and future patterns of behavior, thinking or emotion

2.     Invites the client to generate ideas about how they can move forward and what they are willing or able to do
