The Enneagram and Motivation
Within the coaching profession, different models, tools, and assessments can aid in increasing self-awareness and the potential for sustained transformation.
In this session, we'll explore the model of the Enneagram, and how the nine unique types help explain human behavior through each type's internal (unconscious) motivations. We'll also consider how the coach's personal Enneagram type can create connection (or disconnection) with clients, unless the coach is self-aware.
The facilitator will share her own experiences of personally managing her type during client conversations, as well as how she uses the language of the Enneagram to help clients feel known and understood. This creates a space for the client to be willing to explore spiritual transformation, as they learn to recognize - and take captive - their repetitive, unhelpful thought patterns.
- Explore the nine basic types of the Enneagram, along with the internal motivations for each type
- Consider how the coach's Enneagram type can facilitate connection/disconnection with clients
- Explore the unhelpful, repetitive thought patterns for each type, and the practice for helping clients take these thoughts "captive" on the path toward spiritual growth and transformation

Barb Ranck

Barb is a working mom (to Dillon) and wife of 21 years to Chad. She describes her life as coming from humble beginnings and knows what it’s like to work hard to gain what she has. With an internal drive, Barb reached a point in her life where she achieved success by most standards, yet still felt like there was something missing. It wasn’t “enough.”
Her solution was to “Put my head down” and keep pushing ahead. Work harder. Exhaustion. Burnout. Double-down. Work harder. Repeat the cycle.
As a result, it took a toll on her health, relationships, and on her ability to bounce back quickly. Barb learned through the struggle that her greatest strength sent her into survival mode.
Through becoming a certified life coach, her biggest realization was that she didn't have to work harder or wait for things change to get her energy back. Once gaining clarity on the best path forward, exhaustion decreased and health and relationships improved. Her energy returned and continues to this day.
Barb states, “This discovery has been so impactful for me that I've made it my life's mission to help others balance their greatest strengths in a way that keeps them moving forward, and avoid becoming stuck.”
