CCNI Core Competency #3

Establishes and Maintains Agreements

Presenter: Dr. Rich Weigel

The CCNI Core Competency #3 is all about establishing and maintaining an agreement with the client. The coaching agreement is vital for framing the work that the Christian coach does with his or her client. The coaching agreement provides the guardrails for the coaching conversation, plans, goals, and what the client wants to accomplish in the coaching engagement.

This presentation will take you through a multifaceted approach for working on an agreement with your client. We will review the “rules for engagement” and how you can approach your client based on their needs, ideas, life’s practices, and faith. We will also take a peek at the concepts of “agreement” and “contract” from a biblical perspective. As Christian coaches, we have a deep respect for the meeting of two parties working together to fulfill, find, and/or strategize the needs of a fellow believer. We have a special place in our hearts for the “spirit of covenant” as Exodus 19:5 states; Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine.

  8. Partners with the client to define or reconfirm measures of success for what the client wants to accomplish in the coaching engagement or individual session.
  9. Partners with the client to manage the time and focus of the session.
