Bible Study with a Coaching Approach

Instead of another teaching-based Bible study, how about one designed around your coaching skills?

How to Read the Bible Like a Human Being is a coach-friendly curriculum that uses over thirty coaching questions per session to create rousing discussions about what Jesus and his team experienced. A rich set of cultural and archaeological background info helps you imagine him sailing into a storm, wrangling huge crowds, or walking the temple mount at Passover. We focus on visualizing the scene and identifying emotionally with the characters instead of doctrine and application. It’s studying to know Jesus the person instead of to know about him.

In this event we’ll visualize the story of the Cleansing of the Temple in John 2:13. Just to whet your appetite, here’s a fun fact: there is some evidence that Caiaphas moved the market for Passover animals from the Mount of Olives into the temple itself sometime around AD 30. So maybe the day he cleansed it was the first time in his life that Jesus saw a market in the temple! How would that have impacted him emotionally?

Bio

Tony Stoltzfus is a master coach and trainer with over 25 years of experience in the field. He’s started multiple coaching organizations, and written 20 books on coaching, leadership and the emotional brain.

About this project, Tony says, “I’ve spent the last three years full-time studying how to visualize Jesus’ everyday life in detail. That journey led me to visit almost every place Jesus walked during a three month stay in Israel. I ventured into dusty research libraries in Jerusalem in search of clues. I built two bookcases to contain the obscure volumes I devoured: on first-century letter writing, fishing on the Sea of Galilee, ancient shipbuilding, Honor/Shame cultures, and many more. I even spent $1000 assembling a truly authentic Jesus costume, right down to the tefillin and tzitzit (see picture).

“Why’d I go to those lengths? Because I simply want to know him—my best friend, my love and my life-long companion—and share the fruit of that journey with you.”
