Setting Goals
For 2025
Dr. Rich Weigel, past president of CCNI, will do a one-hour presentation on setting goals. As you know, many people set New Year’s Resolutions at this time with results that usually wind up in the waste. Resolutions and goals are quite different. Being more specific, 83% of people do not set goals for the new year. 14% of people have some type of goal in their heads and they are 10 times more successful than those who have no goals but only 3% of people have written goals, making them 30 times more successful than those who have no goals.
The earliest goal setting instructions include:
Proverbs 16:3 - We can make our plans. (The “what”) But the LORD determines our steps. (The “how”).
Goal setting and Goal attainment are part of how God made you to do his will. There is NO PERFECT way to do goal setting but there are some good techniques that you can learn for yourself and for your clients. Also, consideration needs to be made around your number of goals and category of your goals. Finally…you should never set goals around what you want other people to do… until you first set goals for yourself.
A goal without a plan – is merely a wish.
We will review one balanced goal setting template based on the Bible.
Luke 2:52 (NASB) - And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and people.
Far too many people set goals for their personal life while rarely, if ever set goals for wisdom or favor with God. The Bible tells us that Jesus increased in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and man. That will be the framework for your goal setting. One or two goals for wisdom. One or two goals for stature. And… one or two goals for favor with God and people.
Wisdom = Academic and/or Learning Goals
Stature = Physical, Financial, and/or Professional Goals
Favor with God and people = Spiritual Goals
